Welcome to the Blind Farmer
My story
I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at 6 years old, so I’ve grown up knowing that my vision would one day fade, even when it wasn’t obvious to anyone else. My childhood looked pretty normal from the outside, aside from the extra bumps, bruises, and mishaps that came with tunnel vision and a knack for walking into things.
For a long time my central vision carried me; I only needed glasses and no other aids, and I was even able to get my driver’s licence and spend a few years behind the wheel. Looking back, that was probably a bit sketchy, but I’m grateful I got to tick off a lifelong dream: driving on the Autobahn in Germany. By 25 I had surrendered my licence and undergone double cataract surgery, and since then my eyesight has slowly degraded—I don’t really feel “more blind,” I just notice that I miss more.
I still work in an office environment and can do everything a sighted colleague does, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to find or keep work. In 2026, I decided to take my future into my own hands and build something that fits my reality instead of fighting against it. The Blind Farmer is where I share how I farm, build, and live with low vision, and I hope that by telling my story I can inspire others to see possibility where they’ve been told there is none.
